About Us
Alex is a carpenter with over 15 years of experience across residential, commercial, and civil construction, including renovations and new builds throughout Brisbane and the surrounding areas.
In 2026, he founded The Bookish Builder to combine his passion for quality craftsmanship with a love of books. Specialising in home libraries, bookstore fit-outs, event displays, and collapsible backdrops, Alex creates unique spaces and displays that celebrate reading and storytelling.
When he's not in the workshop, Alex can often be found beta reading for his wife, M.L. Jewell, author of The Datura Chronicles, a dark adult urban fantasy romance series or attending events alongside her. It is from here (and a gentle push from his wife) that inspired him to share his craft helping fellow readers, authors, and booksellers bring their own bookish visions to life.
